How to maintain welded pipes?

Keywords: welded pipe maintenance, welded pipe service life

Welded steel pipe, also called welded pipe, is a steel pipe made of steel plates or steel strips that are welded after being curled and formed. The production process of welded steel pipes is simple, the production efficiency is high, there are many varieties and specifications, and the equipment investment is low, but the general strength is lower than that of seamless tubes. So, how to maintain welded pipes?

As we all know, the service life of an item is directly related to its maintenance, and welded pipes are certainly no exception. In order to extend its service life, we must pay attention to the daily care and maintenance of welded pipes. The following is a brief introduction to the maintenance methods of welded pipes.

1. Cleaning and polishing: If the welded pipe is damaged, it should be polished. In particular, scratches and splashes caused by contact with carbon steel parts and damage caused by cutting slag must be carefully and thoroughly cleaned and polished.
2. Mechanical polishing: Use appropriate polishing tools for polishing, which requires uniform processing and avoid over-polishing and re-scratching.

3. Oil and dust removal: Before welded pipes are pickled and passivated, oil, scale, dust and other impurities must be removed according to the welded pipe process.

4. Water sandblasting treatment: According to different treatment requirements, different micro-glass beads and different process parameters should be selected, and over-spraying should be avoided.
5. Pickling and passivation: Pickling and passivation of welded pipes must be carried out in strict accordance with process requirements.
6. Cleaning and drying: After pickling and passivation, neutralization, flushing, and drying should be carried out strictly according to the process to completely remove the residual acid.
7. Protection: After the surface treatment of the welded pipe is completed, protection should be provided to avoid human touching and secondary pollution from oil, dust and other debris.

Things to note when extending the service life of welded pipes
1. For weld parts, check whether there are cracks, pores and other quality problems, and repair or replace them in time.
2. After the welded pipe is installed, anti-corrosion treatment and protective measures to prevent mechanical damage should be carried out.
3. Perform regular maintenance on welded pipes, such as cleaning off attached corrosion, debris, etc., promptly detect whether there are deformation, rust, wear and other problems in the pipes, and take appropriate measures to repair them.
4. Avoid mechanical, chemical and other external influences on the welded pipe or excessive load.
5. Pay attention to the operating temperature and pressure of the pipeline, and do not exceed the design working range of the pipeline.

By performing daily maintenance on welded pipes, not only can its service life be greatly extended, but its efficiency and safety in daily use can also be greatly improved. Therefore, everyone must remember the above methods and remember to perform daily maintenance on welded pipes.

Tips: ASTM A53 covers seamless and welded steel pipe with nominal wall thickness. The surface condition is usually black and hot-dipped galvanized. ASTM A53 is produced mainly for pressure and mechanical applications, and is also used for transport of steam, water, gas line pipes.
